St. Paul Sister Cities

The Saint Paul Sister Cities program was started in 1995 when St. Paul and Nagasaki, Japan established the first ever Sister City relationship. Currently, St. Paul maintains relationships with ten Sister Cities worldwide. The Saint Paul Sister Cities program is a diplomacy network that strives to further global exchanges at all levels of the community promoting meaningful cultural, educational, municipal, and economic interactions.

In 2006, newly elected Mayor Chris Coleman requested that Capital City Partnership evaluate the current Saint Paul Sister Cities program to determine the most effective and efficient administration. Capital City Partnership established an Advisory Committee to document the history of the program, evaluate the status of each Saint Paul Sister City, and develop a four-year Strategic Plan. Capital City Partnership is now partnering with the City of Saint Paul to administer the plan and coordinate the Sister City program.
