Capital City Partnership is working with the City of Saint Paul on developing new partnerships among business, government, healthcare, and higher education as part of a regional economic development plan to leverage these assets, remain technically advanced, cultivate new jobs, and create a strategic advantage for the City.

Healthcare Demand Increases
Saint Paul hospitals are anticipating an increased demand for healthcare services from aging baby boomers, and project a 26 percent increase in hospital use by 2013. Because of this increase in demand, and the need to accommodate the latest medical technology, the healthcare industry is investing in Saint Paul with significant hospital expansion projects.

Saint Paul ranks third in the nation for higher education institutions per capital. There are 12 higher education institutions in Saint Paul and a total of 23 postsecondary institutions in the East Metro, enrolling nearly 65,000 students each year. Saint Paul has a highly-educated workforce with 60% having Bachelor’s degrees or higher, compared to 20% nationally.
Downtown Saint Paul is home to the College of St. Scholastica’s Saint Paul campus since 2000 and has offered accelerated evening programs for busy adults. More than 600 people have earned undergraduate and graduate degrees, and the site has grown from 3 to 11 accredited programs, ranging from teaching licensure to social work, to its newest offering: the St. Scholastica MBA. Their growth continues with a building addition to be completed in early 2009. Also located in the heart of the city is McNally Smith College of Music, which is devoted to excellence in music industry higher education and in developing music industry professionals.
