Total Universe

The image of most cities emanates from their downtowns and in St. Paul, the predominate land use in the Central Business District is office space. The relative health of the St. Paul office market influences the perception of the Capital City's economic prosperity.

Th e total universe of office space in the downtown St. Paul Central Business District in 2006 is 17,691,716 sq. ft. This represents a record increase of 1,231,688 sq. ft., or 7.48% from last year's report. This increase is due to four new office buildings, including 3 new State buildings that came online this year totaling 1.2 million sq. ft., and additional space in existing buildings being added to the office space inventory. This represents an increase of more that 3.21 million sq. ft., or 18% over the total universe in 1995.

Since 1998, there has been an unprecedented level of development and new investment in the downtown area that has shaped the remarkable renaissance in St. Paul. Over $4 billion has been invested into the Central Business District to revitalize the city. More than ever, St. Paul is a great place to live, work, play, and shop.
